When it comes to the great American pastime people often think of baseball. This however is far from the case as the real American pastime is hitting the roads for a long road trip. Here are 3 tips for making sure your car is ready to go on your next long road trip in Brevard.

Before you hit the pavement for your next road trip you should look into doing the following to ensure your car is good to go. First, check on the fluid levels of your car. Second, look over the tires and their condition. Third, taking your car to a local auto mechanic to get a checkup is always a good idea.

Here at Cassels Garage we have been servicing the greater Brevard County area since 1966. We love meeting new people and hearing about how we have provided an amazing service to them. If you are having car problems then reach out to us today or check out our amazing reviews by clicking here.

Before Going on Your Next Road Trip Check the Fluid Levels

Here is an old trick that will always help you. Before you go on your next road trip out of Brevard make sure that your fluid levels are good to go.

There are several fluid dipsticks or containers under the hood of your car. The first you should check would be the engine oil. Pull the dipstick and make sure the oil is within the appropriate markings and is not coagulated.

After checking on your oil look at the transmission fluid dipstick. This one is of ten a bit further down in the engine bay and has an orange or yellow cap. Pull this dipstick and just like the oil look to see if your transmission fluid is within the appropriate levels. On top of this good transmission fluid should have a reddish hue and not be any other color.

After this take a look at your brake fluid container. This is often near the top right of the engine bay and will have a label on the top that says brake fluid. Just simply open up the brake fluid container and make sure there are no bubbles coming out of it or debris inside. If it is at a good level then you are good to go.

After this you have power steering fluid, coolant levels, and windshield wiper fluid. These reservoirs should be filled to the acceptable level; as indicated by the limit side on the inside of the container. If these are good to go then congratulations you are done.

Check on Your Tires and Their Condition

This is a major step in making sure your car is ready to go in the greater Brevard area. Down here in Florida our tires will start to go extremely fast due to the high-humidity environment. It is important that you make sure your car’s tires are in great shape before driving anywhere.

The first thing you should do when checking your tires is to look at the tread. Take a penny and put it into the grove of the tread of your tire with Lincoln’s head upside down. If the tread is up to his eye or forehead then your tread is good on the tire. If instead, the tread does not reach up this high on the penny then it’s time to change your tires.

While looking at the tread also run your hand around the tire. Here you are feeling for any weird objects stuck in the tire or bulging caused uneven wear. This is where you will find out if your tire has bubbles or nails sticking in it. A simple one-over will cause you to notice just about everything wrong with your tire and can save you a ton of time and money in repairs.

After this take a look at the tire pressure level of the tires. On the wall of each tire will be the acceptable range of PSI for the tire to be inflated to. Make sure that each one of your tires is within this range before you head out on your next road trip.

Take Your Car Into Your Local Mechanic for a Checkup

This is another easy way that you can prepare your car for a long road trip; take it to your local mechanic to make sure it’s good to go.

We get customers all the time who come in with their cars just to make sure that everything is going ok. We look at everything from the electronics to the driveshaft and engine. The goal is that we will alert you to anything that is going on with your car so that you can rest easy knowing that the road trip will be as good as possible.

This is one of the best things you can do before you go on a road trip. Take your car to a mechanic such as us at Cassels Garage and just tell them you are looking for a checkup to make sure your car is good for a long road trip. While you are talking to your mechanic let them know of the place you will be driving to and the expected road conditions. This will help us tailor-fit our service to your vehicle.

As such we always recommend taking your car to a local mechanic just before a long road trip. This can help prevent extremely costly repairs from sneaking up on you.
