Interior

Give your automobile a complete interior cleaning similar to your home spring cleaning. Whether you choose to do this by hand or take your vehicle to a professional is totally up to you. Whatever you decide, start by removing all the clutter/trash that has gathered throughout the car and dispose of it. Vacuum up all visible debris, sand, dirt, paper pieces, etc. Vacuum carpets and seats too. Wipe down the dash, doors, and windows. Don’t forget to clean out all of the stuff you stashed in the trunk as well. Lighter load = better fuel economy. Take the time to remove all the smudgy fingerprints from the windows and clear up the view in all of your mirrors too. Ahhhhhhh… throw in an air freshener and you’re good to go!

Exterior

Time to move to the exterior. Using a cleaner specifically designed for automobiles, wash the outside of the car with a clean mitt or sponge. Towel dry and apply a paste or liquid wax for protection. After removing the wax with a soft rag by hand, use tire cleaner on the wheels, being sure to keep it off the vehicle’s finish. Spraying the undercarriage and wheels wells is beneficial too! Removing salt, dirt, residue buildup will protect the longevity of the frame.

Maintain

After the temperature changes from cool to warm, be sure to include checking the pressure in your tires as part of your spring clean. Temperature changes can cause fluctuations in tire pressure, but be careful not to over-inflate if you do need to add air. Include your spare tire in your assessment also! Check for tread wear and tear and especially if you will be traveling. This might be a good time to have your tires rotated so it will become part of your routine spring maintenance. Keeping your tires properly inflated and rotated/ balanced will help save you money on gas and increase your safety while traveling over spring break.
