Trim Levels and Package Options Demystified

Buying a car is a big deal! Seriously, a vehicle has to accommodate your lifestyle, needs, and personality. Do you need a family ride to get the kids from place to place? Are you in the market for a sweet roadster that shows off some sass? How about a dependable truck to get the job done, no questions asked? If the answer is yes to any of these questions, you have car shopping on the brain. After fifty years of business in Melbourne, FL, Cassels Garage knows a thing or two about vehicles and can help demystify your trim level and trim package questions.

Trim Levels Defined

If you’ve been in the market for a new ride, chances are you come across the term “trim level.” For experienced buyers out there, you know what this means. However, if you are new to the game, you may have noticed this term tossed about by eager car salesmen (or on car websites). While these terms are commonplace within the industry, it made us wonder if some of our readers might like a better definition to assist them in finding the perfect car or truck.

Often used interchangeably, trim level or trim package refers to the set of specific features of a given model of car. Typically, the manufacturing site determines the trim level. You cannot change the trim level. Each trim level or trim package comes with a set of options and styles from basic to full-blown, go and get em’. Higher trim levels add to the base model features or replace them with something else.

Car Options Galore

Now to add on to the mystery of car shopping, we want to point you to car options and add-ons. Once you have chosen the trim level or package that meets your needs, you can choose from dozens of options for the trim package. For example, some car options change the driving experience considerably or add to the safety of an automobile, while others are just for comfort or convenience. These convenience-only options will enhance your ride and raise the car value. Options and add-ons include items such as:

  • Sunroof or Moonroof
  • Upgraded Audio Systems
  • Leather Seating

The choice of options allows you to make the vehicle your own. Some vehicle-makers offer option packages as well, not to be confused with the trim level. Remember, you choose the trim level first and then the options you want after.
