Reasons to Be Thankful for Our Vehicles

This time of year we give thanks for family, friends, health, and a plethora of other wonderful things. However, how many of us take time to be thankful for our cars, trucks, vans, or SUVs? Our vehicles may not always be the best-looking car in the parking lot, or the fastest vehicle on the highway, but owning a vehicle makes our lives better in many ways. So, even though your vehicle may need the occasional trip to the mechanic for a little tender loving care every once in a while, we should all be thankful for the fun and freedom they provide to us. We at Cassels Garage have compiled a few specific reasons for being thankful for your vehicle.

They Get Us Where We Need to Go

The whole reason for owning a car, truck, van, or SUV is to get where you need to go as quickly and easily as possible. Sure, in times long past areas were designed in ways where walking was a suitable option, but with the rise of suburbs walking is far less convenient, and downright dangerous at times. For most of us walking to work, two the grocery store or to pick up the kids from school is not a very viable option, particularly in the heat of summer here in Florida. Or, on days when it’s raining it sure is nice to be able to arrive at work nice and dry instead of getting soaked riding a bike. The fact of the matter is that not everyone in our community is fortunate enough to have a vehicle and they have to rely on alternate modes of transportation that aren’t as convenient and can even limit when and where they can go on a particular day. So, even if your car isn’t all that you dream that it could be, it’s still a blessing to be able to hope in the car and get to where you want to go without a second thought, and that’s certainly something to be thankful for all the time.

Older Vehicles Can Actually Save you Money

It’s a well-established fact that all vehicles will need to be repaired eventually. It’s never fun to need to make a visit to your mechanic and to pay for car repairs. You may even feel like making a repair to your vehicle is a complete waste of time and money. However, your older vehicle is probably still saving you money in a few different ways. Typically you’ll pay lower taxes on older vehicles and insurance costs are usually lower as well. So, as long as you set aside a little bit of money for occasional car repairs and routine maintenance you’ll probably find that your older vehicle actually doesn’t cost you as much as you think, especially compared to making a car payment each month. It’s always nice to have something bight and new to drive, but it’s even nicer to have a little extra cash in your pocket, particularly around the holidays.

They Help Keep Us Safe

Depending on the age of your vehicle the included safety features may vary, but just about every vehicle on the road today is safer than in decades past. For instance, over-the-shoulder seat belts were not even a required safety feature in vehicles until 1968. We take seat belts for granted, but they can literally save your life in an accident. Airbags are another common safety feature that helps our vehicles keep us safe. The very first airbag was introduced in 1950, and though they have been re-engineered to make them safer over the years, they have saved thousands of lives since their inception. There are also more modern safety features that keep us safer on our daily commutes such as backup cameras, electronic stability control, and blind-spot detection. Every year cars become safer and safer and that is absolutely something to be thankful for all year round.

These are just a few of the many reasons we can give thanks for our vehicles. The freedom they provide us for travel has literally changed entire aspects of our country and our world would be a very different place without them.
