Do you know the importance of keeping your windshield clean and clear of debris? As auto repair specialists will tell you, having a dirty or cracked windshield can cause a wide array of issues.

How many times have you been driving down the road, only to discover you need to use your wipers and windshield cleaner to be able to see out a dirty windshield? Or, what about those times when you are driving in the rain and your windshield wipers just aren’t able to keep up with the downpour?

Every time you’re driving when you can’t see clearly, you’re putting yourself and others in danger. If you’re wondering about the importance of a clean and clear windshield, here some compelling reasons to take proper care of it.

•     Dirty windshields make it hard to see

As any driver will tell you, you need to be able to see all that’s going on around you. If your windshield is cluttered and full of gunk, you’re not going to be able to have a clear picture of oncoming traffic. No matter if it’s dirt, grime, bugs or smoke, having a dirty windshield is a big issue. It’s simple to take your car and have it detailed so that the inside and outside of your windshield are clean and ready to be used. And keep that in mind…the inside of your windshield is just as important of the outside. You have to be able to see clearly through both sides of the glass.

•     Chips in your windshield can turn into big problems down the road

Now you might be thinking, “So what? I have a small chip in my windshield.” And while that might be true, a chip never just goes away. Any type of sudden change in weather can cause that small chip to become a huge, ugly crack. If you can get the chip fixed at your local automotive repair specialist, there’s a strong possibility that the chip won’t turn into a huge crack. Once your windshield has a giant crack, you’ll have to replace the entire thing because your car won’t be drivable with a majorly cracked windshield.

•     Pay close attention to your side mirrors as well

Even though they technically aren’t a part of your windshield, they are just as important in your ability to see and drive. If you fail to keep your side mirrors clean, it can have an effect on your depth perception and ability to judge and drive. Keep those clean as well and do what you can to always have them positioned so that they help you drive the best that you can.
